The word Certified Organic
Certified Organic essentially means that an organic product is produced & processed as per the standards laid down by different countries. The process involves stringent third party audits of the grower, processor & the trader to ensure that the produced food which is certified is essentially meeting all the requirements laid down by the certifying authority.
What is the Purpose?
The purpose of getting a product certified is to ensure that the product is essentially in the organic traceability loop, regulated & also to prevent fraud . The certification mark in the product serves as a product assurance for the end customer & he/she can easily differentiate between certified & conventional products.
What goes into getting a product certified?
Growers, producers & traders undergo stringent annual audits checking input material for growing, processing methods, quality & safety in handling organic products, testing for pesticides, heavy metals & other toxins – to ensure they are under allowable limits. By following these elaborate procedures & guidelines, the processor can give the best quality organic product as an output.
